Tips on How to be Successful in an Online Course

  • Have the appropriate software and hardware. Making sure that you have access to a stable and reliable internet connection, along with extended access to a capable device will make all the difference in your online success.
  • Ask questions. Asking is key to learning. Ask your instructor, fellow students, or contact the DE Help Desk if you have questions or need help. Don't get discouraged and give up. Remember, you are not alone!
  • Manage your time. Set aside specific blocks of time each week to check Canvas and to work on your course assignments.
  • Have a designated space to study. Having a space to study will make all the difference to get work done and truly study for an exam. The convenience of taking online courses at home doesn't always come with a quiet space, so try to designate a physical space for you to study on your own.
  • Take responsibility for your learning! While you can (and should) ask questions and for help, ultimately it is up to you to succeed! You are responsible for understanding course content and turning in your assignments on time.
