Software and Hardware Requirements

With the exception of an updated and compatible web browser, Canvas does not require additional software or hardware for you to download. However, there are certain hardware and software requirements for taking online courses.

You Will Need

An internet connection that is speedy and reliable.
Frequent and extended access to either a desktop or laptop computer, or a tablet that is equipped to support varied usage of software.
- Please note, smartphones can be convenient for reading small bits of course material and email, but may not be sufficient for doing your course work.
- If you don’t have an adequate computer available for your use at home, you can use one of the open computer labs available at the Library or Success Centers to complete your course work.
Access to basic office software, such as Microsoft Office 365 for Students (free) or comparable software such as Google Apps, Open Office, or iWork, to complete your assignments.

You Might Need

A webcam.
A microphone (either a headset or one built into the computer).
A digital camera (the one on a smart phone is fine).

Your instructor may require you use specific software for your course. Please check your course syllabus and with your instructor directly for these requirements.
