Yes, this is the same video as last week's overview! This week we hope to understand exactly how Hayden's "wrong letter" affected the enzyme structure and led to his deadly inherited Tay Sachs disease. Again, this is an intriguing example of the power of a single nucleotide change (mutation) in DNA, and how that change can affect not just one type of cell, but the whole organism.

Week 9 Learning Outcomes:

Explain the central dogma.
Explain how transcription produces a temporary copy of the gene known as messenger RNA (mRNA).
Discuss the role of mRNA and ribosomes in protein synthesis during translation.
Describe the genetic code and how the nucleotide sequence determines the amino acid and the protein sequence.
Discuss why every cell does not express all the genes in the entire genome.
Describe examples of biotechnology and explain potential benefits and ethical concerns of these tools in science and medicine.
